[edit] Club Information

Sunderland were founded in 1879 and play in the Barclays Premier League. Sunderland have managed to win the FA Cup twice in 1937 and 1973. Sunderland have also won 6 top division titles in the years 1892, 1893, 1895, 1902, 1913, and 1936. They play their home matches at The Stadium of Light, which has a capacity of 49,000, after moving from Roker Park in the year 1997. Sunderland are currently managed by Steve Bruce, and captained by Lorik Cana. Niall Quinn is the chairman while Ellis Short is the owner.

Sunderland are often called The Black Cats and the Mackems. Their fierce rivals are Newcastle United where they have played each other for 110 years, widely known as the Tyne & Wear derby.
