Main Info
Southampton are a southern based team with a young squad. There mainly called 'The Saints'. They are well known for being in the top flight of English football for 27 years before there relegation to the Championship. Things went from bad to worse from there as they were forced to see all of there main players, namely Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale. The club then induced themselves into debt, meaning that new players couldnt be bought and the club had to use mainly youth players. This helped in them being relegated from the Championship in 2009 after a poor season. The club also entered administration and will start League One with a 10 point deduction, should they find a new buyer for the team.
Starting 11
Onto FIFA terms, Saints are a 2* team, so not the team you would predominently use if you were going for promotion straight away. The preferred formation at the start of the game is a 4-4-1-1. This means that Saganowski is playing just behind McGoldrick in an attacking formation. The highest rated player in the squad is Andrew Surman who plays down the left of the midfield. The goalkeeper is Kelvin Davis, who you can normally count on to make a few decent saves throughout the match. The defence is pretty strong in the air with Chris Perry and Jan Paul Saejis at the back. The full backs are pretty quick with Lloyd James and Skacel playing there. Going onto the midfield and you have a couple of decent tacklers in the middle with Simon Gillett and Morgan Schneiderlin. Having already mentioned Surman down the left, there is also Lee Holmes down the right who is pretty quick. Saganowski and McGoldrick are the preferred strikers, both quick on there feet and decent finishers in a side that doesnt really hold alot of quality compared to some other teams in the league, hence them only being rated at 2*.
Reserves
Should you need to use any of the reserves or substitutes there are some capable players there who would fit into the squad aswell. On the bench you have Bradley Wright-Phillips who is extremely quick, could be used down the wings instead of Holmes or Surman. Euell and Lallana are there, not highly rated in there rating, but decent players once on the pitch and ones that you can rely on. For the defence you have Wayne Thomas and Michael Svensson as backup, both capable in the air and decent tacklers on the ground. The rest of the squad is mainly just youth players, but with the right training they could become leading stars in your team.
Summary
So to summerise, your best player overall for the team is probably Marek Saganowski, hes a decent finisher and in a team with not a lot of talent upfront, he is extremely usefull to have there.
