Richard was born in Wolverhampton, despite being a local boy, he signed for Leicester City Youth Academy in 1998, winning the Young Player of The Year award in 2003/2004. He made his professional debut in 2004. After Leicester were relegated into League 1, Stearman moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers 2008 - Present.
