Taking over Reading is quite a challenge to keep them up in the Barclays Premier League. You don't have much cash to spend and a relatively weak squad. At the start of the game you will have a shortage of central midfielders, so it is always good to bring in one or two. If Mark Noble is transfer listed he is a must buy and is still a good signing if he is not listed. He may only be 72 at the start of the game and will probably only be a bench player in your first season but he is only 20 years old and grows excellently!
Matt Holland is also a good buy, he is cheap but a steady central midfielder and a good pick for captain also. Other than that splashing out the cash isn't always good as there is a bit of a limited budget, maybe left back cover but that is all really. When he slowly loses ability due to age, moving him to central defence is wise as he gains 3 overall numbers when moving to that position.
Reading's key players have to be Leroy Lita and James Harper. Lita is an 80 overall and Harper a 77. Although, Lita doesn't score many goals, but Kevin Doyle can get around 20 a season if played right.
Central defence is certainly a confusing position to sort out. There is Ivar Ingimarsson, Ibrahima Sonko, Michael Dubbery and Andre Bikey all in there with a chance. The pace of Bikey can be very helpful but after a lot of chopping and changing I settled for Sonko and Duberry even though ability wise Ivar is the strongest.
