Newcastle United are a football team currently playing in the Championship having been relegated from The Barclays Premiership in the 08-09 season. Situated in Newcastle Upon Tyne, they were founded in 1892 when two Newcastle clubs merged.

After seeing four different managers take control of the team in the 2008-09 season, Chris Hughton has resumed his role of caretaker heading towards 2010, as the impending sale of the club was believed to be delaying a permanent appointment. However, despite being on the market since relegation in May, receiving £30m in transfer fees (which in turned reduced the wage bill), the sale still looks to be weeks away.

The club are known locally as both "The Toon" (local dialect for "town") and the "Toon Army". They are also known as the Magpies, owing to their black and white kit.
