So far, Liverpool have appeared in each instalment of the FIFA series, barring the World Cup and FIFA Street mini-series, since the series first instalment in 1996, and still currently figure in the game.
On FIFA 08 Liverpool are considered a strong team within in FIFA 08 with a rating of five stars. Their key players are Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard. They also have notably talented players including their goalkeeper Jose Reina, defender Jamie Carragher and several other players with 80+ overalls. If you intend on changing the lineup, you might think to strengthen the wings and defence as they are weak points. With one or two improvements to the team, it is generally easy to win the league and possibly even the Champions League. Playing with Liverpool FC, a definite perk is the healthy budget you have at your disposal when building and changing up your squad. Liverpool also have a few players that reach high development curves, if you give the youngsters time, and upgrade them daily. These players include, Daniel Pacheco, David N'Gog & Jay Spearing.
Liverpool are considered a very strong team in FIFA 09, due to the amount of pace offered by some of their players, such as Fernando Torres, Ryan Babel among others, and their brilliant passers, like Xabi Alonso and Gerrard. A useful tactic when using Liverpool in Manager Mode and during online play is linking Gerrard and Torres up using 1-2 passes, as Torres' pace and Gerrard's passing ability make it very easy to score goals this way.
Liverpool are one of the best teams in Europe on FIFA 10 due to a successful 2008/09 season. Their key players remain the same, in Gerrard, Torres and Carragher, however, Xabi Alonso no longer remains at the club, therefore, Liverpool don't have the same passing prowess as usual. However, because of this, in FIFA 10, the role of Javier Mascherano becomes much more important, as he is very good at breaking up moves. In Alberto Aquilani they have a player who is very skilful and is also a very good passer, free kick taker and goalscorer. A good tactic to use is to play Gerrard and Torres as strikers, which Aquilani and Mascherano holding the midfield, as this allows for Aquilani to make runs into the box while Mascherano can break the opposition play on the counter. In this game, Liverpool are a five star team, and in Manager Mode, even after multiple seasons where key players might go, such as Gerrard and Carragher, they still have a strong youth setup, with notable players like Daniel Ayala, Dani Pacheco and David N'Gog. These players, if played regularly enough as youngsters, become top class players further on in their careers
As it was expected, Liverpool suffered due to their poor league campaign and lack of European success, which resulted in a few players getting their overall's decreased. When FIFA 11 was released, the team still had the strong spine of players such as Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Jamie Carragher, but after the January transfer update, Torres left to leave Liverpool with their new striking partnership, Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez. In recent years, a simple 4-2-3-1 tactic would work due to the strong midfield, and more importantly only having one striker that they could bank on to score goals in Fernando Torres. This has all had to change with the arrival of Suarez and Carroll, and although the default formation of Liverpool is similar to the 4-2-3-1, you are recommended to use a 4-4-2 formation.
