Background

The Dutch Eredivisie is the top flight of Dutch football. The league has sometimes not appeared on the games due to license problems. There are 18 teams and the club that finishes bottom of the league automatically gets relegated. The teams that finish 16th and 17th go into a relegation/promotion playoff with two of top the teams in the second tier. The winners of the league automatically qualify for the Champions League, the runners up go into the second qualifying round.
