D.C. United are Major League Soccer's most successful club, they have won the most MLS Cups & Supporters Sheilds with 4 apiece, they are the only club to have won back-to-back MLS Supporters Sheilds (2006 & 2007) and were the first club to win back-to-back MLS Cups (1996 & 1997) which Houston Dynamo also did in 2006 & 2007.

D.C. United have a rivalry with the New York Red Bulls as they compete for the Atlantic Cup that goes to the most points in aggregate, D.C. has won the past four Atlantic Cups, and 5/6 over all with NY winning the second one in 2003. This is the most bitter rivalry in the MLS with the cities approx 200 miles apart.
